Modes and sources
When to search and when to chat
Iskra offers several modes that determine whether the model uses web search and how deeply it researches. Choosing the right mode saves time and improves results.
Auto
The AI decides when to search. Best for most queries: the model will search when it needs fresh data (facts, news, dates) and answer from memory when it can.
Search
One search iteration. Use for facts, news, comparisons, or when you need up-to-date information. Faster than Deep.
Deep
Up to 10 search iterations. Use for complex research, multi-step analysis, or when you need to compare many sources. Takes longer but gives more thorough answers.
Chat
No search. Use for brainstorming, discussion, creative tasks, or when you don't need external sources. The model relies only on its training data.
In Search and Deep modes you can choose sources: Web, Academic papers, Discussions. Combine them depending on the topic — for scientific questions add Academic, for opinions use Discussions.
Deep mode consumes more tokens and takes longer — use it when you really need a thorough analysis. For quick facts or simple comparisons, Search or Auto is enough. Chat mode is fastest and doesn't use search at all.
